EXPERTISE / Hazard Assessment

Hazard Assessment

Characterising where slope failures start, how far they can travel and what they can reach: from a single slope to a whole corridor or region.

Hazard assessment starts on the ground: structural mapping, discontinuity analysis, identification of past events and of the geomorphic evidence they leave behind. That field basis is then extended with high-resolution topography, historical imagery and, where available, monitoring records.

The result is not a map for its own sake. It is a statement about which scenarios are credible, at what magnitude and with what plausibility, expressed in terms that feed directly into land-use decisions, protective works or operating restrictions.

Typical deliverables

  • Susceptibility and hazard maps
  • Scenario definition with magnitude and frequency
  • Runout and propagation analysis
  • Review of existing hazard documentation
